What is NJIEP?
The New Jersey Industrial Energy Program (NJIEP) has been developed to provide a portfolio of free energy-related services to New Jersey manufacturers. By offering services in the form of assessments, technical assistance, technology deployment, we hope to reduce the energy intensity of New Jersey manufacturers. Beyond our direct services, NJIEP will develop several marketing and outreach activities meant to distribute content of our direct services to a wider population of manufacturers. All of these activities will work towards the broader ITP goals of reducing industrial energy intensity by 2.5 percent annually while concurrently helping companies become more streamlined and internationally competitive.
What can NJIEP do for you?
The NJIEP framework is based on IAC-style industrial assessment of manufacturing facilities. While the NJIEP will focus primarily on energy assessments, there will be many new components beyond that of an IAC-style assessment to help meet the needs of the funding opportunity. First of all, protocols will be developed to help see through implementation of recommended action. NJIEP will provide technical assistance, design work, and benchmarking for potential projects, acting as an unbiased liaison between contractors and clients. Benchmarking will allow the development of Vendor Proposal Reviews (VPRs), which would be unbiased analyses of previously submitted vendor proposals to help foster client confidence in energy saving projects. Another major component of ITP which remains underutilized in actual facilities is the ITP BestPractice and Emerging Technologies. NJIEP will act as the bridge between these emerging and commercial technologies and the clients by reviewing and understanding the new technologies and then recommending them where applicable. This will lead to the development of Technology Demonstration Reports, TDRs, which will be published reports outlining and verifying the actual energy savings of a recommended project. TDRs will be compiled into a database which is accessible to the public.
Public Database
A public database of assessment data will be maintained. The database will be linked to the NJIEP webpage and will also include case studies, best practice manuals, and TDRs. The purpose of the database is to make technical information of greater depth available to the manufacturing community. This will allow many plants to benefit from the work NJIEP does for one manufacturing plant, thus increasing the effectiveness of the NJIEP program. The database will include non proprietary information on the type of facility assessed (size, industry, energy usage, etc.) and details of resulting recommendations (type, energy & dollars savings etc.). The database is searchable by recommendation type, industries assessed, and assessments completed. The database will be searchable by the public.
